Description

The Daniel Boone Bicentennial Silver Half Dollar is a commemorative silver coin series issued by the United States between 1934 and 1938 to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the birth of pioneer hero Daniel Boone and captures a pivotal moment in U.S. commemorative coin history.

Obverse: Portrait of Daniel Boone on the left, wearing a coonskin hat, a deerskin coat, and looking into the distance, symbolizing the pioneering spirit.

Reverse: Boone confronts a Native American – Boone stands with a rifle, the Native American holds a peace pipe and a shield, with wilderness and distant mountains in the background, a metaphor for racial conflict during colonial expansion.

Artistic Value:

Aitken's Renaissance Revival-style design depicts Boone as a "Medici Prince in the Wilderness."
